Accor was among the first hotel and services groups to invest in
a genuine environmental policy.
As early as 1994, the Group set up a dedicated organisation and a
function of Environment Manager. In 1997, Accor’s environment policy
became the Environment Department, which is now supported by a network
of 53 international correspondents, all of them Group employees, who volunteer
their efforts for its actions. Their assignment is to integrate the
challenges
involved in international and national environmental policies, help
adapt them to the tourist industry and define an operational policy for the
Group.
Since 2002, the Environment Department has united with the Sustainable
Development Department to ensure an efficient, consistent Group-wide policy.
All of the environmental actions undertaken were based upon earlier achievements,
illustrating Accor's dynamism and creativity in its efforts to include the environment
as a factor in decision-making. In keeping with common guidelines and backed
by the Sustainable Development Department, each country determines which actions
are most relevant in view of opportunities and local issues.Accor opted for a
global, pragmatic policy which is included at every level of its businesses.
Accor has chosen to orient its environmental policy towards the following
projects.
