Waste traceability
Waste sorting is an important point in the Hotel Environment Charter. In 2006, the rate of selective collection at hotels in compliance with the Charter was:

- newspapers: 68 % of hotels
- cardboard: 76%
- glass: 73%
- ink cartridges: 92%

In France, information sheets are sent regularly to the hotels reminding employees of the Group’s commitments, the environmental regulations in force and the method to use for waste sorting. These sheets emphasise the obligation to be able to trace waste until its final disposal. Best practices introduced in countries are presented and communicated within the Group. In Asia, waste sorting and recycling has made it possible, for example, to finance a school and a dispensary for children (“A Tree for a Child” programme), which is a concrete example of the links between the social and environmental aspects of sustainable development.
