Sofitel & Cinema


Emotion, evasion and culture: Sofitel shares these values with cinema.

Luxury hotels have always inspired and welcomed the greatest filmmakers. So it was that the Sofitel Old Cataract in Aswan, Egypt was chosen to film "Death on the Nile," taken from the novel by Agatha Christie. But the link between Sofitel and the 7th Art goes back to the origins of cinema. The Lumiere brothers' first public cinema projection was organized at the Sofitel Scribe in 1895!

For those reasons, Sofitel has chosen cinema as a strategic orientation for international communication and signed in 2007 a patronage agreement with Unifrance, the association of promotion of French cinema around the world.

Concurrent with its patronage initiative, Sofitel will actively support Unifrance during major international gatherings dedicated to cinema by creating highlight moments with events in Venice, Beijing, Toronto, Zurich, Cannes, etc.

This commitment is the first international initiative of the brand in favour of the 7th Art.
