Ethics ratings

In recognition of its commitment to social and environmental responsibility, Accor has been listed since 2004 in four series of benchmark ethics indexes: the Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes, the FTSE4Good, the Aspi Eurozone, and the Ethibel Sustainability Indexes.

The ethics indexes are developed on the basis of analyses performed by non-financial ratings agencies. These agencies, which appeared in the late 1990s, evaluate and rate businesses on their policy, management system, and performance in various areas of sustainable development.

Each uses its own methodology. They are generally based on the results from questionnaires that they send to businesses, on the official publications of these businesses, and on any other authorized outside sources.

Most of the indexes managed by these agencies have been created in collaboration with the companies that publish the main stock market indexes. They are used by socially responsible investment (SRI) analysts to guide their investment choices.

SAM Agency

This Zurich-based agency analyzes businesses on the basis of three types of criteria (economic, social and environmental) and then establishes a score expressed as a percentage. The series of indexes is the Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes, or DJSI.
