The Motel 6 Northlake-Speedway obtains LEED certification

The brand-new established just opened in Northlake, Texas, has been awarded LEED certification (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) by the US Green Globe Council, America's sustainable building council. This certification recognizes and rewards construction of the establishment's high-performance, sustainable buildings.

The Motel 6 Northlake-Speedway – a sustainable building

The Motel 6 Northlake-Speedway, which features a "Phoenix" design, opened its doors in Texas last October. This green building dovetails perfectly with Accor North America's sustainable development initiatives.

The hotel is designed to reduce energy consumption thanks to high-insulation windows, a roof terrace that reflects light and architecture that reduces the effects of solar radiation. The motel's energy equipment also contributes to this energy efficiency: very low-energy ventilation, solar production of hot water, low-consumption light bulbs (LED) and energy-efficient laundry facilities.

This establishment and its green spaces also feature the most recent solutions for reducing water consumption. The building was constructed using recycled materials and "sustainable" wood, i.e. wood from forests managed according to the principles of sustainable management.

A brief explanation of LEED certification

LEED is an outside-agency certification program and an international benchmark for design, construction and operation of high-performance sustainable buildings. LEED certification is based primarily on the following criteria: energy economy, efficient water management, reduction of carbon emissions, quality of the internal environment, use of locally sourced materials and re-use of any surplus.
