Accor is mobilising for "National Energy Saving Day" in Italy and Portugal.
The “National Energy Saving Day” was introduced on February 16, 2005, when the Kyoto Protocol came into force to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in developed countries.
For the second year in a row, the European Parliament sponsored “National Energy Saving Day” and the event is now starting to be observed across Europe.
Involvement of Group hotels in Italy and Portugal
On February 12th, all the Novotel, MGallery, Mercure and ibis hotels in Italy and Portugal reduced their electric lighting and switched off any energy-consuming devices that were not indispensable. To take the action even farther, candlelight was used at restaurant tables.
The initiative was taken in answer to the call launched by the Italian radio station Caterpillar inviting listeners to lower their private energy consumption during the broadcast.
